Severe delays have been reported on the M11 this morning following a serious crash near Harlow, Essex.
A major crash was reported on the motorway near Stansted Airport at 4.46am this morning, which has led to severe delays and queuing traffic in both directions.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the area where possible, and diversion routes have been put in place for both directions.
A National Highway spokesperson said: ‘The M11 is closed in both directions between J8 (Stansted) and J7A (Harlow) following a serious multiple vehicle collision. All emergency services are working at the scene with Essex
police leading the response.‘Traffic Officers and contractors are on scene and assisting with strategic closures on the approach.’
The crash happened on the southbound carriageway.
The carriageway is ‘expected to remain closed for some time,’ Essex Police warned.
An air ambulance has landed on the northbound carriageway where traffic has stopped after the lanes were briefly reopened.
‘The road has been closed at junction 8 to allow emergency services to carry out their work, and is expected to remain closed for some time.
‘Drivers should check before travelling and plan their journeys accordingly,’ the force said.
