The discovery of a dead body on an east London street has seen the police smash down the door of a nearby house.

A man, in his 50s, was found dead in the early hours of Wednesday morning on Walton Road in Ilford.

The death is being treated as unexpected and officers have launched an investigation.

Metro understands a house nearby was raided by officers with protective shields earlier today.

A crime scene has also been established around Walton Road and other nearby streets.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service, who rushed to the scene alongside the Met Police, said: ‘We were called at 4.46am today (23 July) to reports of an incident on Walton Road, Manor Park.

‘We sent a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene.

‘Very sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.’

The investigations came on the same day that five people were arrested after a fatal stabbing in Ilford overnight.

Two men and three women were arrested on suspicion of murder after a 30-year-old man died of multiple stab wounds in Felbrigge Road.

Paramedics tried to save his life but he died at the scene.

The five are understood to be known to each other and the death is being treated as an isolated incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke from the Met’s Specialist Crime North unit said: ‘Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this unimaginably difficult time.

‘An incident of this nature sends shockwaves throughout the local area and we understand the direct impact on the community.

‘People can expect to see an uptick in police presence while officers conduct initial investigations. Please do not hesitate to speak to them if you have any concerns at all.’
