A Sikh woman raped and told to ‘get out’ the country has said she ‘wouldn’t wish this on anyone’

A manhunt is ongoing after a Sikh woman was raped in what is now being treated as a ‘racially aggravated attack’.

The woman, in her 20s, was assaulted by two white men who then told her to ‘get out’ of the country.

The incident happened in Oldbury, West Midlands just before 8.30am on Tuesday.

The charity Sikh Youth UK, through which the victim issued a statement, described the attach as ‘one of the most harrowing cases we have encountered’.

In a statement , the woman said: ‘I would never wish this on anyone.

‘All I was doing was going about my day on my way to work, and what has happened has deeply affected us.

‘Through it all, my family has been my rock, and my community has stood strong behind me.’

The victim said she hoped her attackers ‘are caught so that this doesn’t happen to anyone else’.

She added: ‘There has been so much love and support, and I am truly humbled.

‘We are going through a lot, but the strength and kindness shown by the right people in the community has been incredible, and I can’t thank them enough for being my voice.’

An emergency meeting was held at Guru Nanak Gurdwara temple in Smethwick in the wake of the attack, Sky News reported.

Police are looking for two suspects, one with a shaved head, heavy build, and reported to be wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and gloves.

The other man was reportedly wearing a grey top with a silver zip.

Ch Supt Kim Madill said: ‘We are working really hard to identify those responsible, with CCTV, forensic and other enquiries well under way.

‘We fully understand the anger and worry that this has caused, and I am speaking to people in the community today to reassure them that we are doing everything we can to identify and arrest those responsible.

‘Incidents like this are incredibly rare, but people can expect to see extra patrols in the area.’
