Filipina actress and singer Maris Racal has officially canceled her performance at the Mabuhay Philippine Festival in Toronto, originally slated for Saturday, Aug. 23, at Nathan Phillips Square.
The announcement came through TFC Canada’s Facebook page, citing a health-related emergency as the reason behind the cancellation.
“We regret to inform you that Maris Racal will not be able to perform at the Mabuhay Philippine Festival on August 23 at Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto, Canada due to health-related emergency,” the post read, before thanking supporters for their understanding and encouraging festival-goers to continue enjoying the festivities.
The “Sunshine” actress herself echoed the news on Instagram, where she reposted the announcement and added her own message to fans.

“Sorry, I won’t be able to go for now. Hindi pa po ako allowed to travel. But I’ll be back in Canada very soon for ASAP! Hope to see you all there!” she wrote, reassuring followers that she intends to make a return once her health permits.
The cancellation comes just days after Racal revealed she had undergone surgery for appendicitis.

On Aug. 19, she shared a lighthearted update from her hospital bed, writing, “Congrats, it’s an appendix!” while holding a stuffed toy. She expressed gratitude to the medical team who cared for her and gave a sweet shoutout to her younger sister for staying by her side despite it being her birthday. “Still on the road to recovery. Rarampa muli,” she added optimistically.
Despite her temporary setback, Racal’s career momentum remains strong. Her film “Sunshine,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and won recognition at Berlinale earlier this year, continues its successful local run, now on its fifth week in Philippine cinemas.
The movie has been met with positive reviews, further cementing her reputation as one of today’s versatile stars.
While fans may be disappointed not to see Racal at the Toronto festival, many have flooded her social media with well wishes, expressing hopes for her speedy recovery. For now, the actress is focused on healing.
