An air ambulance carrying six people travelling from Boston to Bermuda has gone missing.

The US Coast Guard has launched an urgent search after the aircraft failed to arrive at its destination.

The plane, owned by Latitude Air Ambulance, had been performing a medical evacuation in Bermuda.

FlightAware data shows in plummeted around 11,000 ft from 25,000 just after 1am.

A final ping came around 1.30am shortly before it was scheduled to land.

Clarence Togeretz, Latitude’s Director of Flight Operations, told NBC News: ‘We always get rather concerned when our crew doesn’t report to us in a timely manner.

‘But I will say that again, optimistically and positively, that doesn’t mean that the worst has happened.’

It is unclear who is on board the plane, but it typically operates with two pilots, a nurse, and a respiratory therapist.

Searches are currently taking place near Nantucket, Massachusetts.
