Meghan Markle has reportedly told Prince Harry that it’s ‘time to move on’ from their $21 million Montecito mansion.
The royal couple purchased the sprawling estate in California — complete with nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a library, sauna, gym and pool — in 2020, following their dramatic move to the US after stepping down as senior royals.
However, an has insider told Heat World
The source said: ‘She’s sick of having to lose four hours of her day in the car when she has meetings or appointments, and the fact that their neighbors continue to trash-talk them doesn’t exactly make her feel welcome.’
Last month, Page Six reported that the royal couple’s neighbors are ‘avoiding’ them, and that ‘no one wants to be seen with them.’
They claimed that it’s ‘not hate,’ but just a ‘growing awareness that they’re takers with zero self-awareness,’ adding: ‘Everyone’s exhausted by them.’
The insider said that Meghan is keen to leave Montecito behind as she feels ‘too cut off from the social scene in Hollywood,’ and wants to be ‘much more tapped in because that’s when the deals really happen.’
According to the insider, Montecito, an affluent Santa Barbara neighborhood and also home to celebs like Oprah Winfrey and Ariana Grande, is ‘just a vacation spot’ for ‘most power players in the biz.’
‘They leave their homes there empty most of the year, so it’s not like there are many chances to schmooze.’
Netflix recently cut ties with Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, months after the streamer signed a multi-year TV and film contract with the Duke and Duchess.
A spokesperson from the brand told The Independent at the time: ‘As Ever is grateful for Netflix’s partnership through launch and our first year.
‘We have experienced meaningful and rapid growth, and As Ever is now ready to stand on its own. We have an exciting year ahead and can’t wait to share more.’
In a separate statement, Netflix said: ‘Meghan’s passion for elevating everyday moments in beautiful yet simple ways inspired the creation of the As Ever brand, and we are glad to have played a role in bringing that vision to life.’
As for prospective LA areas, the source claimed that Meghan would ‘love to get a second place in Brentwood or Bel Air like a lot of her friends have.’
It was also claimed that Meghan doesn’t just have her sights set on the West Coast; she’d love to expand her property portfolio in New York, too.
However, the source alleged that they’re not in a ‘financial position to run two massive households so they need to make a choice.’
Should they stay in California, they said that Meghan is ‘open to Malibu if Harry still wants the beach life.’
They added that the mum-of-two has even said Calabasas ‘could be a great fit’, not least ‘because they could live in the same neighborhood as Kris Jenner, and she’d really love to repair that relationship.’
For those not in the know, there was a rumoured rift between Meghan and the momager after photos of the couple at Kris’ star-studded 70th birthday bash last year suddenly disappeared from social media.
It was initially reported that the Sussexes had ticked a ‘no photo’ option on a consent form for the James Bond-themed party hosted at the sprawling Bezos estate, meaning any photos taken of them inside the venue could not be shared publicly, including on the Kardashians’ Instagrams.
However, Kris’ billionaire daughter, Kim, soon cleared the air, sharing that there was no love lost between them.
Addressing the ‘photogate’ on her sister Khloé’s podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land, she said: ‘I think they realised it was Remembrance Day, and they didn’t want to be seen at a party, even though it’s already up, you know, and then taken down.
‘We were told that it was totally cool to post. We’re never ones to post without permission. It’s not who we are.’
Harry and Meghan have been living in the US for six years now, along with their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, who was born across the pond.
The couple announced their royal exit in January 2020 with a joint statement that read: ‘After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.’
The notice revealed that Harry and Meghan intended to ‘step back as “senior” members of the royal family and work to become financially independent, whilst continuing to fully support Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.’
It continued: ‘It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.’
Unfortunately, this didn’t go to plan, and since then Harry has been publicly estranged from his family.
