First Lady Melania Trump in her first public remarks since her husband began his second term lobbied for legislation to make posting revenge porn a federal crime.
Wearing a khaki pantsuit with a matching vest and white collared shirt with a navy tie, President Donald Trump’s wife took a seat in a Capitol Hill roundtable with lawmakers and victims to advocate for the Take It Down Act.
‘I am here with you today with a common goal — to protect our youth from online harm,’ said Melania.
‘The widespread presence of abusive behavior in the digital domain affects the daily lives of our children, families and communities.’
Introduced by Republican Senator Ted Cruz, the act ‘would criminalize the publication of non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII), including AI-generated NCII (or ‘deepfake pornography’), and require social media and similar websites to have in place procedures to remove such content upon notification from a victim’.
Melania took a swipe at Democrats while urging Congress to pass the bill.
‘I must admit, however, I expected to see more Democrat leaders with us here today to address this serious issue,’ she said.
‘Surely as adults, we can prioritize America’s children ahead of partisan politics.’
