An artist has beaten his own world record for creating a sculpture so small that it can only be compared to a human blood cell.
David A Lindon, from Bournemouth, Dorset, has created a tiny sculpture called The Yellow Smiley Face, which sits on a first-class stamp as a single microdot on the eye of the late Queen Elizabeth
The sculpture is no bigger than a particle of talcum powder, measuring a mere 0.01104mm by 0.01233mm.
His artwork was so small that he sought help from scientists at Bournemouth University to measure the sculpture and verify the record using their specialised, high-resolution microscopes.
He now holds the new Guinness World Record for creating the smallest handmade sculpture.
David previously held that title after creating his Red Lego Brick sculpture, which measured 0.02517mm by 0.02184mm.
‘I am thrilled at this news and grateful to Bournemouth University for measuring it,’ David said.
‘My sculpture is so small that it is the same size as a particle of talcum powder, a human blood cell, mould spores, bacteria and even a fog droplet.’
Dr Sarah Elliott, associate head of school of life and environmental sciences, said the sculpture may pique the interest of the university students.
She said: ‘Our students will be fascinated to see the sculpture that David has created for us, and we hope that this will inspire students to think of life in miniature in different ways.’
David has previously made headlines for creating a menagerie of miniature creatures for his solo exhibition, the World’s Smallest Zoo, showing different animals contained inside the eye of a needle.

The artist works in the middle of the night when there is less traffic and fewer disturbances, and said he slows down his heartbeat to create his miniature sculptures.
He is also known for recreating a Banksy painting as well as Mickey Mouse in teeny tiny proportions.
Since then, David has created a micro sculpture of a graduate holding their certificate, which is less than a millimeter wide and set on a gold plinth.
The stamp, which is home to the Yellow Smiley Face, is mounted on a glass tower and housed inside a sealed glass box.
