A new survey suggests that SMEs in the North East were poorly placed to stand the coronavirus outbreak, with business distress on the rise even before economic lockdown.

The quarterly Red Flag report from insolvency firm Begbies Traynor shows that many companies across a range of sectors were experiencing financial difficulties in the first quarter of the year.
