Motorway closed all day because of major police incident

A police incident has closed a motorway near Manchester in both directions, with disruptions expected until the end of the day.

The M67 is closed amid a ‘police incident’ – with officers at the scene on the Tameside motorway this morning.

The motorway is closed in both directions between junctions three at Hyde and four at Hattersley. National Highways says the motorway is likely to remain closed throughout the day ‘due to the nature of the incident’.

A GMP Tameside spokesperson said: ‘Please be aware that officers are dealing with an ongoing incident on the M67.

‘While investigations continue, the M67 will be closed in both directions for the majority of the day.’

The police have urged drivers to find alternative routes and apologized for the inconvenience.

The details about the ‘police incident’ have still not been released.

Drivers are facing a second major road closure nearby this morning.

The A628 Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions between Hollingworth and the A616 Flouch roundabout, in South Yorkshire.

That disruption is due to a ‘serious road traffic collision’, according to National Highways. Police remain in attendance.
