The “Honmoon” will forever be sealed.

She spoke candidly about devoting a decade of her life to a single dream, by becoming a K-pop idol, only to be met with repeated rejection.

“When I was a little girl I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fulfill one dream – to become a K-pop idol. And I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough and so I leaned on songs and music to get through it. So, now I’m here as a singer and a songwriter,” she said.

Rather than centering the moment solely on herself, EJAE highlighted the deeper purpose of “Golden,” explaining how the song was meant to uplift listeners navigating their own struggles.

She shared that being part of a track that resonates across generations is the true victory. “It’s a dream come true to be part of a song that’s helping other girls and other boys and everyone of all ages to get through their hardships, to accept themselves,” she added.

‘Rejection is redirection’

EJAE addressed what the recognition symbolized for artists who have long felt unheard. “So thank you Golden Globes for accepting my voice and our voice,” she added, dedicating the win to “people who have had doors closed on them.”

“I can confidently say rejection is redirection,” she said. “So never give up, it’s never too late to shine like you were born to be.”

The words echoed the themes of KPop Demon Hunters, a film centered on empowerment, identity and inner strength.

Meanwhile, for director Maggie Kang, the accolades affirm the creative mission at the heart of the project. “Through this film we really wanted to depict female characters the way that we know women, which is really strong and bold.”
