Dust has hardly settled after the White House press secretary’s sacking when a new name for the role was floated – Nicki Minaj.
All eyes have been on Donald Trump’s White House after the high-profile hiring and firing of Katie Zacharia as the Oval Office press secretary.
The 41-year-old lasted in the job for less than a week, during which she delivered a clumsy first speech which made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Her role came to a sudden end after her boss, Trump, urged her to ‘reconsider’ it.
Now the high-profile job is up for grabs again, and one unlikely candidate suggested for the role is the Anaconda singer.
Trump’s White House communications boss Steven Cheung wrote on X: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House press secretary! @NICKIMINAJ.’
He posted a video showing Minaj answering press secretary-style questions about the president on board Air Force One.
Then Trump’s adviser Alex Bruesewitz chimed in by reposting the video, asking the signer directly ‘what do we think about this idea?’
The musician responded cryptically with the USA flag and sweating laugh emoji.
So, what are the chances of Minaj becoming the next White House press secretary?
While the suggestion was made seemingly in jest, the Super Bass hitmaker and the US president are friendly, and Minaj, 43, has openly praised Trump.
At Trump’s Michigan rally on Sunday, Minaj gushed about the president, who turned things awkward by commenting on her body.
The 80-year-old told his supporters: ‘I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before — Nicki Minaj.
‘That’s hard to miss.’
He also praised the body of Republican politician Senator Jon Husted before droning on about Minaj butt and saying he hopes she was not insulted.
Minaj said during the rally: ‘It is an honour to stand with you every single time. And I will continue to support you forever and ever. If you run again, I will support you again.’
Aside from the mutual praise and appearances together, there is little to suggest the singer might seriously consider the job, although she has said she is keen to ‘work with President Trump.’
Meanwhile, many have questioned whether the mutual praise and high-profile media appearances are just a PR stunt.
Bookies have given the singer an 8% chance of becoming the next press secretary, the third-most likely candidate after the current deputy Anna Kelly, and politics commentator and strategist Scott Jennings.
White House reporter Jake Lahut said on his blog that rumours and remarks from Oval Office insiders suggest there is ‘a very genuine possibility’ that Minaj could take on the hot seat.
Earlier this month, the singer praised POTUS for being an inspiration.
Speaking to Fox News The Ingraham Angle show, Minaj said: ‘I am honoured to be able to have an opportunity to work with the administration and to work with President Trump. He has inspired many people, not just me, and he’s fun. He’s not just smart and he’s not just the president, but he’s also just someone I can relate to.
Minaj has aligned herself openly with the MAGA movement in recent years, but previously the rapper has not minced her words about Trump’s immigration policies.
In 2018, the singer, who moved to the US as a child from Trinidad and Tobago, pleaded with the Trump administration to ‘please stop’ separating immigrant children and parents during deportation.
