North East tourism sector will lose £3bn if lockdown lasts all summer
The North East economy could take a £3bn hit if the coronavirus lockdown continues for the whole summer, tourism bosses say.
Research by the NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI) has found the region’s tourism industry would lose nearly £1bn if the lockdown continues to the end of May, that amount likely to triple if tourism is essentially shut down all summer.
