Ahead of the release of her third studio album on June 12, Fil-Am singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo rolled out the album’s lead single, “Drop Dead,” Friday, April 17.
The brand new track dropped alongside a music video showing the pop superstar dancing head-in-the-clouds at the Palace of Versailles in France.
The song explores the invigorating early stages of being in love. The singer opens, “I know that the bar closes at 11, I hope you never finish that beer.”

Later, she and the subject are standing close together, a moment she describes as “the most alive I’ve ever been.” She continues, ”Kiss me and I might drop dead.”

Rodrigo’s upcoming album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” has hit over 2 million pre-saves on Spotify.
The singer hinted at more musical and lyrical experimentation in the new album, which sees her tap more into her “lover girl” side.
“It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place,” she tells British Vogue . Though in her own newsletter, she reflects, “No matter how hard I try to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy.”
“Drop Dead” is available to stream on major platforms like Spotify and YouTube. The album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” is available for pre-order.
