Filipino American pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo is continuing to use her voice beyond music, taking a firm stand against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations and the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

The Grammy-winning singer recently reiterated her opposition to aggressive immigration enforcement efforts, describing ICE’s actions as “barbaric” and “cruel.”

Rodrigo also expressed disappointment over the current state of immigration policy in the United States, saying she is saddened to see such practices accepted by many.

Her latest comments come amid a broader pattern of advocacy that has seen the singer become increasingly vocal on political and social issues affecting immigrant communities.

hateful propaganda’

One of the key moments that intensified Rodrigo’s criticism occurred when the US Department of Homeland Security used her song “All-American B*tch” in a social media post promoting deportation efforts.

The singer quickly responded online, condemning the unauthorized use of her music and making it clear that she did not want her work associated with what she described as “racist, hateful propaganda.”

The incident sparked widespread discussion among fans and fellow artists about the use of copyrighted music in government messaging and the responsibility of those public figures to respond.

Beyond criticizing the agency, Rodrigo has also shown solidarity with communities affected by immigration raids.

She has publicly supported demonstrators protesting enforcement actions and has condemned operations that have resulted in fatalities.

Immigrants’ rights

At the same time, the singer has encouraged her followers to become informed about their legal rights.

Through her social media platforms, Rodrigo shared resources from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), directing fans to the organization’s “Know Your Rights” materials designed to help individuals understand how to respond during encounters with immigration authorities.

The guide outlines several protections, including the right to remain silent, the importance of consulting a lawyer before signing documents and the need to verify whether officers possess a warrant signed by a judge before entering a home. It also encourages documenting encounters when it is safe to do so.

Rodrigo has likewise urged supporters to spread accurate information, support vulnerable neighbors and stay connected with legal resources available in their communities.

Despite criticism that entertainers should avoid discussing politics, Rodrigo has defended her decision to speak publicly about social issues.

In her cover story for Dazed magazine, she argued that expressing one’s beliefs is “part of being an artist.”
