Patrick Mahomes reveals first reaction to Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed he was skeptical about Travis Kelce’s romance with Taylor Swift until the pop star showed up at Arrowhead Stadium.

Patrick Mahomes has played alongside Travis Kelce for years, but even the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback needed convincing when rumors swirled that his star tight end was dating Taylor Swift.

“He told me during the week,” Mahomes shared. “It was one of those where I gotta see it until I believe it.”

In ESPN’s new docuseries “The Kingdom,” Mahomes recalled the exact moment he realized the relationship wasn’t just talk. Kelce had confided in him that the pop icon might attend a game, but Mahomes admitted he was skeptical.

That disbelief turned to certainty in September 2023, when the Grammy-award winning pop superstar appeared at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time, sitting next to Kelce’s mother, Donna.

For Mahomes, her presence was undeniable proof. “You definitely felt the buzz and you could see people in the stadium gravitating towards where she was up there,” he recalled.

Even with the excitement surrounding Swift’s surprise arrival, Mahomes emphasized that the team stayed focused. “At the same time, we had business to handle,” he said, underscoring the Chiefs’ ability to balance the spectacle with the seriousness of game day.

Beyond that unforgettable debut, Mahomes revealed his admiration for Swift’s artistry after getting a closer glimpse of her creative process. 

In a separate interview, Mahomes also expressed his respect for Swift’s work ethic, noting that after getting a glimpse of her creative process, he came to appreciate just how much effort she pours into making her albums. He hinted that the results would be nothing short of amazing because of the dedication she consistently shows.

The quarterback also admitted that when he scanned the stadium crowd that day, Swift stood out more than anyone else. In his words, “That’s the first person I noticed, I didn’t see anybody else.”

For Mahomes, what began as doubt quickly turned into awe, not only of his teammate’s romance but also of the cultural phenomenon that followed once Swift and Kelce’s relationship became public.
