Pensioner raids Christmas market in Berlin and steals entire gluhwein dispenser

This is the moment a pensioner stole a whole mulled wine dispenser from a Christmas market in Germany.

The man, shown in footage walking with a frame, first targeted the Loretta beer garden in the town of Wannsee outside Berlin on Thursday December 4, as it was being prepped into a festive center.

He was caught on several cameras grabbing more goods from the beer house on Saturday.

More footage showed him returning on Tuesday, when he was captured at 1.15am unlocking the cash register only to find nothing inside.

Each time he left the thief locked the doors behind him, according to the local news reports.

Event manager Daniel Schwabe said the raid had cost the venue from 70,000 to 80,000 euros to repair the damage.

He said the thief had taken a bunch of master keys, several electronic devices and a tap system for serving gluhwein, or German mulled wine, to festive patrons.

Schwabe added that the intruder had also broken into a back office, smashed windows and damaged a cooling unit.

Several stall holders have now taken to sleeping on the premises to protect their equipment, Bild reported.

‘We all hope he doesn’t come back’, said Bastian Pirschel, who runs a grill stand.

Several reports have since been filed to the police and the venue has installed an alarm system and changed the locks.

Mr Schwabe said: ‘I spent months planning to turn the beer garden into a Christmas market – and then something like this happens.

‘Luckily, operations are not affected.

‘We had replacements, and the Christmas market can continue.’
