“Filipiñana,” the Philippines’ official entry for the 2027 Oscars, will screen at the Avalon Theatre in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 14.

The Film Academy of the Philippines announced in September that “Filipiñana” had been selected as the country’s submission for the Best International Feature Film category.

The award-winning dark comedy-drama was selected from eight shortlisted films, including Jerrold Tarog’s “Quezon” and Raymond Red’s “Manila’s Finest.”

Earlier this year, the film won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

Filipino filmmaker Rafael Manuel also bagged the New Directors Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

SFFILM describes “Filipiñana” as “a striking and surreal exploration of class and adolescence set against the backdrop of one endless, blistering summer day on the expansive golf course of a luxurious Manila country club.”

The story follows 17-year-old Isabel as she uncovers disturbing secrets at the exclusive country club where she works.

The screening will offer audiences in Washington, D.C., a glimpse of contemporary Filipino cinema through the Philippines’ official entry for the 2027 Academy Awards.

Tickets and more information are available on the Avalon Theatre website.
