Police have launched an appeal for a young mother who left a hospital in Romford shortly after giving birth.

Officers were called to the hospital after reports that the mother had left without her newborn on Tuesday.

The baby remains in the hospital under the care of staff and is ‘in good health’, according to the Met Police who released CCTV images of the woman arriving at the hospital with a bump.

The woman, in her 20s, is of slim build, dark haired and was last seen wearing a light colored top and patterned skirt.

A Met spokesperson said the force are increasingly concerned for the mother’s welfare and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

DI Neil Godwin, leading the investigation for the Met, said: ‘This woman has just given birth and, because of this, she is extremely vulnerable.

‘This is not a criminal investigation – we need to locate her to make sure she is ok.’It is extremely important that if you know, or have any information about the whereabouts of this woman that you tell us so we can ensure she gets the right support.’

People with any information as to who the mother is are asked to contact police on 101.
