Prince George follows in his dad’s footsteps on his first day at Eton

Prince George is expected to attend his first day at Eton College today as he embarks on the next phase of his education.

George, 13, is following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, and his uncle, Prince Harry, who both attended the public school in Berkshire.

The young prince previously attended Lambrook School, a private prep school in the same county, which is also attended by his siblings Princess Charlotte,

William and his wife, Kate Middleton, were spotted touring Eton with their eldest son in 2023, fuelling speculation that the school was high on their list of possible places to send George.

The press were allowed to record William’s first day at Eton with his parents, Charles and Diana, the then Prince and Princess of Wales, and his brother, Harry, and the family were pictured as the new pupil signed in on September 6, 1995.

Eton College is one of the most famous and prestigious schools in the world and has a reputation for instilling self-reliance and leadership.

The admission process is rigorous, with the boys going through stringent tests. Parents pay an annual fee of £63,298.

Famous alumni include actors Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Eddie Redmayne, a large number of prime ministers including Lord David Cameron, writers George Orwell and Ian Fleming, and celebrity adventurer Bear Grylls.

King Charles went to Gordonstoun, a school in the Scottish Highlands attended by his father, the late Duke of Edinburgh.

He told biographer Jonathan Dimbleby his time there was ‘a prison sentence’, but that it instilled self-discipline and a sense of responsibility.
