Princess Eugenie leaves anti-slavery charity after Andrew’s arrest

Princess Eugenie has stepped down as patron of a historic anti-slavery charity after her father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested.

The disgraced Duke’s youngest daughter left her role at Anti-Slavery International after seven years.

Eugenie’s profile – which praised her work ‘across the board with leaders in the fight against modern slavery’ – has been taken down from the human rights group’s website.

Her father Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office after allegedly sharing confidential information with the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein while

He was released under investigation the same day, when he was pictured slouched at the back of a car.

In a statement just two weeks later, Anti-Slavery International said: ‘After seven years, our patronage from HRH Princess Eugenie of York has come to an end.

‘We thank the Princess very much for her support for Anti-Slavery International. We hope that she continues to work to end slavery for good and deliver freedom for everyone.’

There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing by Eugenie, her sister Princess Beatrice or their mother Sarah Ferguson in connection with Epstein.

Emails from the Epstein files appear to show that Ferguson and her two daughters flew to the United States just days after he was released from jail in July 2009.

They met him for lunch in Miami, when he was still under house arrest as a registered sex offender.

The paedophile financier appears to have paid for the flights for the trip.

Ferguson wrote after the lunch: ‘I have never been more touched by a friend’s kindness than your compliment to me in front of my girls. Thank you Jeffrey for being the brother I have always wished for.’

Princess Eugenie, 35, announced on Anti-Slavery Day – 18 October – in 2019 that she was becoming a patron of Anti-Slavery International.

The charity is the world’s oldest human rights organisation and was founded by Thomas Clarkson in 1839.

The Princess also co-founded a separate charity called The Anti-Slavery Collective in 2017.

The group spent twice as much on salaries, £191,537, as charitable programs, £97,206, The Observer reports.

The newspaper revealed that the Charity Commission has said they are assessing concerns over expenditure at The Anti-Slavery Collective.
