Pupils ‘hide under desks’ after ‘threat’ made at Gorton school

A school in Greater Manchester was plunged into lockdown this morning following fears of a serious incident.

Pupils at Cedar Mount Academy in Gorton were reportedly told to stay in their classrooms.

In posts on social media, parents with children at the school have said they are ‘under tables’ and the school is ‘swarmed with police.’

Two police cars and a van were seen parked outside the school in the wake of the incident, Manchester Evening News reports.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said officers responded to reports of a ‘threat made to the school’.

They said there was ‘no ongoing risk or threat’ but added they would remain on the premises to ‘provide reassurance’ to pupils and staff.

A spokesperson from GMP said: ‘Officers are at Cedar Mount Academy in Gorton after they alerted us to a reported threat made to the school.

‘We’ve responded and identified no ongoing risk or threat to anyone in the school.

‘We’re remaining at the school to provide reassurance as we start to investigate the circumstances behind the reported threat.’

Cedar Mount Academy is a co-ed secondary school south east of Manchester with more than 800 pupils aged 11-16.
