Record 5,450,000 people now waiting for routine treatments on NHS

More than half a million people joined the waiting list for NHS treatments in the last three months as it grew to record levels.
New figures from NHS England showed 5.45 million were waiting to start treatment at the end of June.
This is the highest number since records began in August 2007.
