Are the Red Arrows changing?

The Red Arrows are gearing up for another hectic summer of flying, with the first display of the season in Devon (Picture: Getty Images)

The display team are in line for a major tweak – the number of aircraft in the fleet.

Usually made up of nine Hawk T1 jets, the formation will be reduced to seven because of the ageing fleet as the aircraft undergo maintenance.

All nine aircraft will still fly for the King’s birthday in June and for the 250th anniversary show in the US.

Where are the Red Arrows based?

The home of the Red Arrows, aptly nicknamed ‘The Reds,’ have had a fair few homes over the years.

They were originally based at RAF Little Rissington in Gloucestershire, then the Central Flying School, before moving to what is now Cotswolds Airport in 1966.

The arrows were moved once again to RAF Scampton, in Lincolnshire, in 1983, which they had to leave in late 2022 to relocate to RAF Waddington.
