SM Entertainment stepped in, warning that it is monitoring the situation closely and taking legal measures to protect Winter.

The agency acknowledged the “severity of the malicious posts and comments,” which range from defamation and personal attacks to sexual harassment and deepfake content.

These posts have appeared on platforms including DC Inside, Women’s Generation, Nate Pann, Instiz, TheQoo, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.

In its statement, SM Entertainment said it is expanding legal complaints in stages, addressing posts that defame Winter’s character or spread false rumors.

The agency also noted it is pursuing both criminal and civil action against individuals responsible for creating harmful content, and that it is gathering extensive evidence of those who generate sexually harassing material or distorted content online. 

SM emphasized that they will “respond strictly without leniency” and urged the public to avoid engaging in misconduct.

The warning highlights the intense scrutiny K-pop idols face, where unverified rumors can quickly escalate into harassment campaigns.
