A Russian shadow fleet oil tanker has been intercepted in the English Channel, Keir Starmer has said.
Royal Marine Commandos and specially trained law enforcement officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA), supported by the RAF, boarded the vessel on Sunday morning.
Following the six-hour operation, the vessel, Smyrtos, will be held off England’s south coast to allow for investigations, the Ministry of defense (MoD) has said.
In a statement posted to X, the Prime Minister said: ‘In the early hours of this morning, I directed our Armed Forces to intercept a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel.
