Several schoolchildren sitting in the top deck of a school bus have been injured after it collided with a bridge in Lancashire.

Emergency services are at the scene on Spendmore Lane in Coppull after it collided with the bridge at 12.30pm this afternoon.

Police said ‘a number of children suffered injuries which are thankfully thought to be relatively minor at this time’.

In a post on X, police said: ‘We want to update you and let you know that Spendmore Lane is currently closed from the junction of Lancaster Street to Regent Street to due to a road traffic collision.

‘We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time, whilst we assess the situation.
