Man shot by police after people stabbed outside synagogue in Manchester

Police are at the scene of a ‘major incident’ at a synagogue after a car was driven into a crowd and a person was stabbed.

Greater Manchester Police have been called to Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall this morning.

Police have put a cordon in place on Middleton Road and declared a major incident.

They said a car was driven towards members of the public, before someone was stabbed.

One man, believed to be the offender, was shot by armed police officers.

Four people are being treated by paramedics for injuries caused by both the vehicle and stab wounds.

The incident has taken place during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism and often referred to as the Day of Atonement.
