Taylor Swift began her journey to global superstardom 20 years ago with the release of her self-titled debut album on Oct. 24, 2006.
Then 16 years old, Swift wrote about heartbreak and romance on the 11-track record. The country-pop artist released five enduring singles: “Tim McGraw,” “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Our Song,” “Picture to Burn” and “Should’ve Said No.”
Her debut single, “Tim McGraw,” became her first song to enter the Billboard Hot 100, debuting on the Sept. 23, 2006, chart.
The album first appeared on the Billboard 200 less than three weeks after its release on Nov. 11.
Swift was nominated for Best New Artist two years later at the 2008 Grammy Awards, a title that ultimately went to singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse.
Following her debut, she released “Fearless” in 2008, the pivotal album that pushed the singer to pop superstardom with singles like “Love Story” and “You Belong with Me.”
Her “Eras Tour,” which ran from 2023 to 2024, celebrated music from all 11 of her studio albums at the time, from her 2006 debut to her 2024 release, “The Tortured Poets Department.” It holds the record for highest-grossing music tour in history at over $2 billion and is the first music tour to reach a billion dollars in revenue.
Two decades after her debut, Swift continues to break records, including her own, win major awards and make headlines around the world.
