Teen and man, 20, charged over crash that killed baby boy and injured pregnant mum

Two people have been charged over a car crash which killed a baby boy and seriously injured a mother last year.

The victim, in her 30s, was crossing the road when she was hit by the vehicle in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, on September 29 last year.

The woman was pregnant at the time of the collision and suffered serious injuries.

She underwent emergency surgery to have her baby boy delivered – he died later in the hospital.

Some eight months since the crash, the woman is still recovering.

Ashir Shahid, 20, of Windsor Road, Walton-le-Dale, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A 16-year-old boy, also of Walton-le-Dale, has also been charged with assisting an offender.

They appeared in court today.

The police added today: ‘A number of other people arrested in connection with the investigation remain on police bail.’
