Smokers coughed up more than £4,000 in court after being caught throwing their cigarette butts on the floor.
Ten people were convicted of littering in prosecutions brought by Sunderland City Council.
Their cases were escalated to South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court after they each failed to pay on-the-spot £150 fines…
