Three teenage girls have been jailed following the death of a 75-year-old man.

The girls, who cannot be named because of their ages, pushed Fredi Rivero and punched him in the face while he was waiting at a bus stop on Seven Sisters Road in north east London.

Fredi, from Bolivia, fell backwards and hit his head on the pavement following the attack, a day after which he died in hospital.

The teenagers, two of whom were aged 17 and the other aged 15, even filmed the attack on one of their phones.

Two of them were arrested by officers in a local park within hours of the attack, while the third was detained at her home.

Once in custody, the trio turned on each other in an attempt to pass the blame for the incident, with one insisting ‘I swear to god she pushed him and then he fell and hit his head. That’s nothing to do with me’.

The three were handed a combined prison sentence of nine years at the Old Bailey on Friday after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

The 15-year-old was sentenced to two years and six months in a youth detention center. One of the 17-year-olds were handed a sentence of three years and six months, while the other received a sentence of four years.

Fredi’s daughter paid tribute to her father as a ‘kind, gentle and polite’ man and her ‘brightest star’.

She said: ‘He was my most loyal friend, and now he is my brightest star.

‘He loved chess, calligraphy, the band Queen, and stargazing – an activity we both cherished doing together.

‘He held strong values of integrity, dignity, and love, instilled in him by his family. He was a peaceful man who never went out of his way to trouble anyone.

‘Our family has been left deeply affected and traumatised, we are now experiencing the profound grief and immense pain of losing him.’

DI Devan Taylor, who led the investigation, said: ‘Firstly, I would like to send my deepest condolences to Fredi family, they have showed remarkable strength throughout this horrible ordeal and are a testament to his memory.

‘This was a completely unprovoked attack by three teenage girls, on an elderly man who was just going about his day. The fact they filmed the attack and found it funny is even more sickening.’
