Toddler in hospital after dog attack at child’s birthday party

A young child is in hospital after a dog attack at a birthday party.

The toddler, thought to be between two and three-years-old, was attacked in Hardwick, Stockton-On-Tees, Teesside this afternoon.

They were taken to University Hospital of North Tees suffering from head and arm injuries, which police described as non life-threatening.

Police were called to Chopwell Close following the incident and seized an animal.

It has been taken it to specialist kennels, while officers and scenes of crime experts investigate.

Police are yet to confirm the breed of the dog, but witnesses reported seeing a Pitbull-cross.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police, said: ‘Police were called to a property on Chopwell Close in Hardwick, Stockton, this afternoon after it was reported that a child had been attacked by a dog.

‘Officers attended the scene and secured the dog safely, without any harm to the animal, and removed it from the premises. The dog has been taken to specialist dog kennels.’

One passerby said the dog had bitten the child’s arm and scalp and added: ‘There were loads of emergency services as I was walking past, and the bairn was taken to hospital, it looked really bad.’
