Traffic has ground to a halt on the M6 near Rugby after a police incident this afternoon.
The motorway is closed in Warwickshire while the police deal with an incident.
A stretch of the motorway is blocked northbound between the M1/A14 and junction J1, while the southbound lanes are closed between J2 Coventry and J1 Rugby.
Frustrated motorists got out of their cars while waiting at the roadblock.
National Highways said: ‘The M6 in Warwickshire is closed southbound between J2 (Coventry) and J1 (near Rugby) and also blocked northbound between the M1/A14 and J1 due to a Police-led incident.

‘National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management.’
Diversions have been put in place.
One eyewitness said on social media that she saw ambulances charging down at Walsgrave island.’
Inrix, which analyzes traffic data, said in an alert: ‘Queueing traffic due to earlier police incident on M6 both ways from M1 J19 (Catthorpe Interchange) to J1 A426 (Rugby / Lutterworth). All lanes have been reopened.’
