Trump threatens to arrest ‘communist’ favored to be NYC mayor and strip his citizenship

President Donald Trump has threatened to arrest a man who is the favorite to be New York City’s next mayor and strip him of his US citizenship.

Zohran Mamdani, 33, a democratic socialist, hours after officially winning the Democratic primary for mayor on Tuesday defied Trump after amid a series of warnings from the Republican president.

‘The President of the United States just threatened to have me arrested, stripped of my citizenship, put in a detention camp and deported,’ wrote

‘Not because I have broken any law but because I will refuse to let ICE terrorize our city.’

Mamdani stated that ‘we will not accept this intimidation’.

He added that in November, ‘voters will resoundingly reject’ Trump’s praise for New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who opted out of the Democratic primary and is seeking reelection as an independent.

Mamdani pushed back on Trump after the president continued to call him a ‘communist’.

Asked about Mamdani’s remark in his victory speech that he will ‘stop masked ICE agents from deporting our neighbors’, Trump said: ‘Well then, we’ll have to arrest him.’

‘Look, we don’t need a communist in this country, but if we have one, I’m going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation,’ Trump told reporters while touring the new ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ migrant detention center in the Florida Everglades on Tuesday.

Trump also raised false claims that Mamdani, who was born in Uganda, is in the US illegally.

‘A lot of people are saying he’s here illegally,’ the president said.

‘We’re going to look at everything. Ideally, he’s going to turn out to be much less than a communist. But right now he’s a communist. That’s not a socialist.’
