US President Donald Trump has claimed two more golf trophies after shooting a remarkable two-under-par round at one of his own courses.
The golf-mad commander-in-chief said that he completed the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster course in just 70 shots to win its senior and super senior championships.
Not bad for an 80-year-old with a full-time job to squeeze in around the golf.
Trump announced the result on Truth Social alongside footage of himself playing his apparent winning shot. A separate clip showed him collecting a trophy in front of the clubhouse leaderboard as onlookers applauded.
‘Thank you very much to all of those who participated,’ he wrote. ‘I won with a score of 70, and am so honoured in that, unlike the rest of the field, I’m given very little time to practice, because I’m focused on many other things.’
Trump finished with a characteristically modest assessment of his achievement. ‘It’s called TALENT, and I have it, and they don’t!’ he added.
The Bedminster course has a par of 72, making the claimed score an exceptional round for an amateur golfer of any age.
Trump said the weekend’s victories took his career collection to 43 club championships, although that tally has long been questioned by golf writers and fans.
He produced an even lower score at the same annual competition in 2025. A scorecard shared by The White House showed Trump completing his round in 69 shots, with a net score of 67 after his handicap was applied.
That card put him one stroke clear in the gross competition and 10 ahead on net score.
Trump also claimed the senior and super senior titles at Bedminster in 2023, giving him an unusually well-stocked trophy cabinet from tournaments hosted by his own clubs.
At this rate, the cabinet may soon need its own wing at Mar-a-Lago.
The president has never lacked confidence in his ability. ‘I’ve played a lot, and I’ve played well,’ he previously said. ‘There are very few people who can beat me in golf.’
Trump’s golf game has received some praise from respected figures within the sport, including major winners Jack Nicklaus and Ernie Els.
Trump plays regularly across the collection of courses operated under his name but questions about the way he plays exactly and the manner in which he records his scores have followed him for years.
His championship claims have attracted particular scrutiny because the publicly reported victories have all come at Trump clubs, sometimes under formats that critics say wouldn’t be used in conventional tournaments.
Sportswriter Rick Reilly collected many of those allegations in his 2019 book, Commander in Cheat. Reilly, who has played alongside Trump, claimed: ‘When it comes to cheating, he’s an 11 on a scale of one to 10.’
Among other things, Reilly has accused Trump of taking excessive mulligans, improving the position of his ball and recording favourable scores from rounds played away from other competitors.
A Trump spokesman previously rejected Reilly’s account as false and accused the writer of pursuing a personal vendetta.
Trump, for his part, has continued collecting titles and presenting his results as proof of his natural ability and physical fitness.
The latest victory came during a weekend in New Jersey which also produced a rather smaller golfing controversy.
Having apparently mastered Bedminster in 70 shots, Trump came unstuck over the considerably simpler matter of removing a glove.
Footage showed him greeting a group of US military personnel at Bedminster while still wearing a white golf glove.
‘With his golf glove on. How disrespectful,’ one X user wrote after watching the clip.
Another asked: ‘He wears his golf shoes and driving glove wherever he goes, I’m guessing….???’
Trump smiled, spoke to the service personnel and shook several hands during the encounter.
None of the troops shown in the footage appeared to complain. That left the indignation largely in the hands and thumbs of people reacting online.
