Police have said there is no threat to the wider public after two men were arrested on suspicion of murdering a 30-year-old woman.
Police said officers and London Ambulance Service paramedics were called to a property on Bensham Lane in Croydon at about 7pm on Monday following reports of an unresponsive woman.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed and formal identification is yet to be made.
The two men, both aged 21, remain in police custody and a murder investigation is under way.
Officers said the men were believed to have been known to the woman and there was no threat to the wider public.
A neighbour told the BBC it was ‘absolutely frightening’ to witness the response by emergency services.
Mohamed Mughal, 54, who lives on Bensham Lane, said: ‘We didn’t see it (the incident) but last night we just looked out and the road was all cordoned off. There were lots of police cars, lots of ambulances.’
Asked if he felt the area was unsafe, Mr Mughal said: ‘This is Croydon, isn’t it?
‘I’ve seen it down the road. I’ve seen a guy collapse right in front of us and all sorts of things.’
Ch Supt Andy Brittain said: ‘We are saddened to hear about the loss of this young woman. We are currently supporting her family while they process this shocking news.
‘I understand the impact this incident will have on the community and we are doing everything in our power to investigate the circumstances of what happened.’
He added that there would be a higher officer presence in the area and appealed for anyone with information on the death to contact police.
