An 18-year-old has died after suffering a ‘medical emergency’ at a music festival.

The woman had been at Tonnau Festival, held at Carreglwyd Estate in North Wales, when emergency services were called at 1:45am on Saturday.

She was taken to hospital but later died.

organizers have since confirmed that the festival, which was due to take place from July 10-12, has been cancelled completely.

Issuing a statement, they said: ‘Everyone at Tonnau Festival is deeply saddened to confirm that a festival attendee tragically passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning following a severe medical emergency.

‘Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the attendee’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.’

organizers explained how, from ‘the moment the attendee became unwell’, on-site welfare teams, security, and emergency medical staff ‘responded immediately’.

‘Paramedics and welfare personnel did everything they could to provide emergency care, but unfortunately, they later died in hospital,’ a statement read.

​Insisting that ‘the safety and well-being of [their] audience is always the highest priority’, they are ‘cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation’.

‘Following this tragedy, and to allow emergency services and local authorities to conduct their necessary work, we made the decision to close the remainder of the festival and have asked people to vacate the site when it is safe for them to do so,’ their statement continued.

​’We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all our attendees, staff and volunteers during this incredibly difficult situation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will be making no further comment at this time.

Police also issued a statement, confirming the woman’s death at the festival in Llanfaethlu, Anglesey, which hosts international bands and DJs.

‘We can confirm that a woman has sadly died at a festival in Llanfaethlu, Anglesey. Emergency services attended Tonnau Festival at Carreglwyd Estate at around 1:45am this morning, 11 July, following reports of a medical emergency,’ a spokesperson said.

‘Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, sadly, the 18-year-old woman later died in hospital.’

Her death is being treated as ‘unexpected’, and the coroner has been informed.

‘Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,’ said Detective Inspector Iolo Edwards.

‘We urge members of the public not to speculate on the circumstances of the death, and anybody with information that could assist our enquiries should contact us via our website or by calling 101, quoting reference O110259.’

Spread across seven stages and described as ‘unique and family-friendly’, Tonnau Festival attracts around 2,000 attendees with its music and culture offerings, plus food and drink.

This year, its line-up included Jamz Supernova, Mr Scruff, Pat Kalla & Le Super La Perla, Madalitso Band, Lamisi, and K.O.G.
