Fears are growing for a British tourist in Bali after being swept away at sea more than 24 hours ago.

Harrison Edward Nada Kontounas had been swimming with two friends when a strong current dragged him away at Legian Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

Lifeguards warned them to get out of the water, fearing turbulent wind speeds of 18m/h.

His friends managed to make it back to shore, but the 23-year-old, from London, vanished in the churning sea.

An urgent search is now ongoing to trace Harrison.

Footage shows a diligent joint rescue operation taking place involving boats and helicopters.

One search and rescue unit has headed to Legian Beach, where the victim swam, while another to Kelan Beach.

Nyoman Sidakarya, head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) said: ‘We urge you to be careful when engaging in outdoor activities, including beach tourism.’

At present, Harrison has not yet been found, and his condition is unclear (Picture: Jam Press)

Red flags, indicating that sections where entering the water is prohibited due to dangerous conditions such as riptides, have been put up after his disappearance.
