A California woman has discovered she is carrying a baby for a reclusive Chinese billionaire, who has reportedly fathered hundreds of children.
The woman, who is being referred to as ‘Judy’ for anonymity reasons, was allegedly offered $120,000 to become a surrogate after she saw an advertisement on Instagram.
Judy said she had initially considered surrogacy so she could ‘build a better life’ for her and her seven-year-old daughter.
Seeing it as an opportunity to move into a home of her own, Judy signed an agreement with Patriot Conceptions — a California-based veteran-founded surrogacy and egg donation agency.
However, while pregnant, Judy found out that she had been misled through reporters.
Rather than carrying a child for a ‘single father who wanted to grow his family,’ as described by the agency, she was reportedly pregnant with Chinese gaming billionaire Xu Bo’s baby, who allegedly hopes his US-born offspring will go on to marry Elon Musk’s kids and create a family dynasty.
‘The agency should’ve been very transparent from before getting matched … about who it is that you’re having a baby for and what the family is,’ Judy told CBS News.
‘I can’t be exact, but I know it was a large number and I just kind of sat with that information thinking, “You know, that’s a lot,’” Judy said, after she was told there were around two dozen other women carrying babies for the billionaire.
‘That’s a lot of kids at one time.’
Still, Judy decided to continue with the surrogacy after friends and family encouraged her to do so. She had also signed the contract and needed the money.
Following Judy’s experience, The California Post reached out to Patriot Conceptions about the claims.
They told the outlet that Xu Bo had presented himself as a single father and that they had ‘zero affiliations’ with another case from a different agency, in which a woman was also allegedly carrying the billionaire’s baby.
‘Conflating our agency with those unrelated arrangements is materially misleading,’ Patriot Conceptions said.
‘A surrogate should never have to become an investigator to understand the arrangement she is entering. In response to these industry-wide challenges, Patriot Conceptions is introducing a standardized pre-match disclosure framework—‘Before You Accept’—and establishing an independent fund to guarantee surrogates access to independent legal and psychological counsel if material client facts change.’
Essentially, these are new protection measures for any future surrogates the agency works with.
CBS have been investigating surrogacy abuse in the US for a while now. Whistleblowers told the broadcasting company that ‘women can enter into agency contracts unaware they may carry children simultaneously with other surrogates for the same intended parents, or carry for foreign nationals who may never enter the country.’
This comes after another woman, anonymously named Andrea, had to hand over a baby she carried via surrogacy to a ‘completely different couple’ than she had initially met.
The investigation also found there is no official tally of surrogacy births in the US. However, it’s estimated there are up to about 10,000 a year.
As for Xu Bo, he has reportedly been able to father over 100 US-born children through surrogacy agencies.
The 48-year-old founded the online gaming company Duoyi, and reportedly refers to himself as ‘China’s first father.’
According to the Wall Street Journal, he is desperate to produce ’50 high-quality sons,’ in a bid to keep his business in the ‘family.’
WSJ also said that Xu Bo has reportedly posted on his own social media about the fact that he has sired over 100 babies through surrogacy.
