A man was left baffled after he was issued two fines for allegedly parking his Audi in a disabled bay that was painted around it.

The London-based Afrobeats artist Silvastone took to social media to share the footage of the incident, which happened in a residential area in Croydon, south London.

He said it was ‘madness’ that workers from Croydon Council painted disabled bay markings around his already parked car – for him to then be issued the penalties.

In CCTV footage of the incident, which took place on November 17, the driver’s black Audi convertible is seen parked by the pavement.

A worker dressed in a hard hat and hi-vis clothing walks next to a Highway Maintenance truck with the words ‘line painting’ on the rear.

He goes around to the back of the car and appears to take measurements – then walks one pace at a time past the Audi, lines up with a drain next to the pavement and marks a single white line on the road.

The worker appears to add further road markings around the car.

The video cuts to footage, filmed a few days later, of a traffic warden who takes photos of the vehicle.

Silvastone said in the video that the same woman came back the next day to issue a second fine, while the ticket allegedly from the previous day can be seen on the windshield of his car.

He said: ‘So guys, imagine: I park my car and it’s not in any sort of disabled bay or restricted parking as you can see. There’s no yellow line.

‘I’m thinking I’m safe, I can travel, my car’s good. Lo and behold some madness is about to happen.

‘On my little camera I’ve got, they are making a disabled bay around my car. Mad!

‘And then now you have a traffic warden. She’s decided to give me a ticket.

‘I’m thinking “what kind of madness is this?” because I never put my car inside the disabled bay.

‘So Croydon Council, I don’t know what you guys are on. Anyway, the next day the lady [traffic warden] is back.’

He added: ‘This is not on. This is not fair. Clearly there’s no communication, you guys [the council] are just running it however you want in order to make profit.

‘It kind of feels like they’re bullying – ’cause how can you do this?’

As the video shows the traffic warden taking pictures of his car, Silvastone said: ‘There she goes… giving me a ticket for being in a disabled bay that I never put myself in…

‘This ain’t fair, this is absurd. My second ticket, bang, slapping it on the window.’

He insisted he was ‘parked legally’, adding that Croydon Council ‘needs to be held accountable for this because there’s no communication and you’re there, busy giving tickets and just raising blood pressure’.
