Sainsbury’s sales slip over the Christmas period

Sales at Sainsbury’s fell slightly in the weeks around the Christmas period.
The supermarket’s like-for-like sales in the 15 weeks before 4 January were 0.7% lower than last year.
While grocery sales actually increased by 0.4%, poor sales in the division that includes Argos, which is owned by Sainsbury’s, weighed on the company’s overall performance.
