The story of Bonfire Night – aka Guy Fawkes Night – is well known in the UK.
The plan – or Gunpowder Plot – was to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament on November 5, 1605, as a way to get King James’s nine-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, installed as the Catholic head of state.
