For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, the tournament final will include a halftime show modeled after the grand spectacle of the Super Bowl, bringing together some of the world’s most recognizable music acts on one stage.

Headlining the historic performance are K-pop supergroup BTS, Madonna and Shakira, who are set to perform on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The halftime event, produced by Global Citizen and curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay, signals FIFA’s push to transform the World Cup final into a broader entertainment experience that extends beyond football.

Unlike previous tournaments where halftime was reserved mainly for analysis and performances from marching bands or ceremonial acts, the 2026 edition is expected to deliver a tightly choreographed, high-production performance similar in scale and energy to America’s biggest sports entertainment showcases.

What to expect

Fans can likely expect massive stage setups, synchronized visuals, pyrotechnics and a globally televised production designed for audiences far beyond the stadium itself.

Reports indicate the show will run for approximately 11 minutes, meaning every second will likely be packed with back-to-back performances and surprise transitions.

One of the biggest talking points surrounding the event is BTS’ participation. The appearance arrives during the group’s long-awaited reunion activities following their mandatory military service.

Meanwhile, Shakira’s return to the World Cup spotlight feels almost symbolic. The Colombian superstar has become closely tied to football culture over the years, particularly after the global success of the hit song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The event will also support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to expand access to education and football programs for children around the world.

There are also reports that characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets could appear as special guests, as teased in the YouTube video announcement.
