Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara has reached a major academic milestone after graduating from Spelman College, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
When her name was called, it was announced as “Zahara Marley Jolie,” a detail that stood out as she was presented without her father’s last name.

Zahara has increasingly used “Jolie” in formal and public settings. She previously introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” during her initiation into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in November 2023, and she has also been referred to using her mother’s surname at select public events, including a mother-daughter gathering in April hosted by the Pearls of Purpose Foundation.
In a speech delivered at the Pearls of Purpose Foundation Scholarship Mother Daughter Luncheon on April 26, Zahara opened up about her relationship with her mother in a more personal tone.
She described how she struggled to fully express their bond, saying it was “challenging to find the words,” not because she didn’t value the relationship but because, as she explained, she and her mother share a “unique, almost kindred connection that is difficult to fully put into words.”
She also reflected on her early life and adoption, sharing that she was adopted at six months old and grew up surrounded by a supportive family. In her remarks, she credited her mother for shaping their values, noting that she was raised with lessons centered on kindness, service and continuous personal growth.
She said she was “grateful to have a role model who showed what it means to be a decent human being.”
