Nearly 70% of retail clients believe AI can play a meaningful role in investing when paired with human expertise, according to Schwab research
Charles Schwab today announced the availability of the firm’s first generative artificial intelligence capability for retail investor clients in the UK. Designed to help provide greater clarity to investing, the capability delivers insights that bring together portfolio performance, relevant market news, and curated Schwab Center for Financial Research (SCFR) commentary in one simple view to provide context on factors that may potentially be impacting a client’s portfolio and why.
Schwab research shows growing client interest in using AI as part of the investing process, particularly when paired with human expertise and support. A recent Schwab survey of nearly 1,000 retail clients* found that:
- Over 60% of respondents said they’re interested in using AI
- Nearly 70% believe it can either support routine tasks or play a meaningful role in investing when paired with human expertise
The new portfolio insights capability integrates Schwab data, research, and third-party market news into timely, tailored summaries for each client’s holdings. AI‑powered explanations incorporate Schwab expert commentary to help inform and provide critical context to investors. It is designed to provide information, not investment advice. The capability is covered by Schwab’s privacy, security, and data standards.
Richard Flynn, Managing Director at Charles Schwab UK said: “Portfolio Insights gives our UK clients timely, personalised context on their holdings alongside the research and expert commentary they already trust from Schwab. It is a practical example of how AI and human expertise can work together to support more informed investment decisions.”
Clients can access the tailored portfolio insights within their existing Schwab.com and Schwab Mobile App experiences on the Account Summary page.
The capability includes:
- AI-powered summaries of portfolio performance for up to five holdings in a client’s portfolio that saw the most movement since the last day, helping them understand what changed.
- Summaries of news related to the S&P 500 equity holdings that may have the biggest impact on a client’s portfolio.
- Context and commentary from Schwab Center for Financial Research (SCFR) and other Schwab investment experts relevant to the specific holdings in a client’s portfolio to help explain what may be driving market activity.
Schwab may expand portfolio insights capabilities in the future, providing clients with insights on topics such as concentration risk, asset allocation, and technical indicators.
