A statue of Charlie Kirk is set to be unveiled in Times Square one year after his assassination – but there are worries it will be vandalised.

The Turning Point USA founder was an infamous commentator who was vocal on issues including opposing trans rights, supporting gun control, and advocating for religion.

The close ally of Donald Trump was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, as he spoke on the campus of Utah Valley University.

Pro-Trump artist Sergio Furnari has since shared videos of the statue he’s made of Kirk – and has had mixed reactions.

Many pointed out that Kirk was ‘just a podcaster’, while others said that the installation would be destroyed if it were placed in public.

‘From someone who lived in NYC, this Charlie Kirk monument won’t make it overnight without being vandalised,’ one wrote.

Furnari is funding the statue through crowdfunding, but has only raised about $1,500 out of his $150,000 goal.

‘There’s been lots of talk from politicians, and none of them, absolutely none of them, have come up with a serious plan or a financial business plan to install a memorial for Charlie. We the People can erect this eternal masterpiece,’ the platform reads.

‘Donors of any kind will have their name engraved on the Monument’s platform. So yes, your name will be eternally attached to Charlie Kirk.’

Last week, the preliminary trial of Kirk’s alleged shooter began. His widow, Erika Kirk, came face-to-face with the man charged with his murder.

Tyler Robinson, 23, was charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstructing justice, and witness tampering following the right-wing influencer’s death.

Prosecutors are said to be pushing for the death penalty. AP reports Robinson has yet to enter a plea, but his attorneys have asked for the death penalty to be taken off the table.

Erika arrived at court surrounded by three security guards, separately from Kirk’s parents, Robert and Kathryn. Donald Trump Jr. also attended.

After the trial, Mrs Kirk walked straight back to her car, not stopping to speak to the media.

She previously said she ‘forgives’ her husband’s shooter.
