An eight-year-old is among three people in hospital after a car was seen hitting pedestrians and crashing into a motorway service station.

The collision happened at around 11.45am today at Cardiff Gate services just off junction 30 of the M4.

An eight-year-old child and a 39-year-old man, both pedestrians, and a 76-year-old female driver were all taken to hospital.

A witness told WalesOnline that a black BMW car hit people sitting at a table before striking the main service station building.

The witness said: ‘It was awful. About 15 people were trying to lift the car off.’

They added: ‘I imagine the driver had a medical emergency as I can’t understand how they went into the building at that speed.’

It is understood none of the injuries are life-threatening.

A South Wales Police spokesman said they were investigating an incident at Cardiff Gate Services, where a ‘car collided with a retail premises on the site’

The force added: ‘Three people have been taken to hospital including an eight-year-old child and a 39-year-old man, who were both pedestrians, and a 76-year-old woman who was the driver of the vehicle. It is understood none of the injuries are life-threatening.’
