Donald Trump has made yet another outlandish claim, telling a rally that he could have ended the Vietnam War in a ‘week’.
While speaking about the ongoing war in Iran and the previous operations in Venezuela, the President told a crowd in Iowa about how America ‘never fought to win’.
‘Vietnam, 21 years, thousands and thousands of people killed, hundreds of thousands of people killed. Afghanistan, years and years… we never fought to win,’ he rambled.
‘I could have won the Vietnam War in a week, you know. They dropped whatever the hell that red crap is that they…kept dropping it in the forest.’
Trump was referring to Agent Orange, the deadly herbicide dumped across Vietnam during the war to kill crops.
The carcinogen-laced mixture left thousands of people with cancers, diabetes and other health issues, including birth defects.
Trump has previously claimed he could end other wars quickly, including the Russia-Ukraine war, which he said he would end in ’24 hours’.
His solution was to tell Zelensky: ‘No more. You got to make a deal. I would tell Putin: If you don’t make a deal, we’re going to give them a lot. We’re going to give them more than they ever got, if we have to.’
While running for the White House in 2024, Donald Trump vowed not to start a war, but to ‘stop wars’.
The ongoing conflict in Iran has become a major issue for voters heading to the polls tomorrow for the key midterm elections across America.
65% of Americans disapprove of the way Trump is handling the situation in Iran – with just 33% approving.
Earlier this year, Metro spoke with two Trump supporters who were torn about Trump’s approach to the Iran War after he vowed to not drag the US into another ‘forever war’.
Tucker*, a 27-year-old Independent who voted for Trump, said he thinks Trump’s actions could turn into another Iraq or Afghanistan, which he says no voters want.
‘If he puts boots on the ground over there, he’ll go down as one of the worst presidents ever, labelled only as ‘Bush 2.0’. All I can do is hope that it’s not a forever war. It’s not what I voted for, obviously,’ he added.
‘Part of me has wondered if he began this Iran mess to distract from what’s going on domestically with the Epstein files and ICE. It just seems too convenient.’
Trump voter Mark, 58, disagreed, telling Metro: ‘The idea of going into Iran to act as a distraction over something domestic, like the Epstein files, is absurd. No one would go to that extreme to create a distraction.’
Mark said that the action in Iran is something that should have happened ‘years ago’ and that he doesn’t think it could turn into another ‘forever war’, like Iraq.
