Filipino American singer-songwriter Lyn Lapid explores toxic love in “One Good Thing,” the first single from her upcoming second studio album.
After months of teasing her next project on social media, Lapid released the single and its music video on Sept. 4.
“How do I give my all to you, but without losing me in the casualties and resent you for good? I think I do already,” she sings to her beloved.
Lapid premiered the song with a YouTube livestream, where she revealed that her beloved in the song is music itself.
“‘One Good Thing’ is about a sort of toxic relationship that I had and I wrote about my avoidant tendencies. However, the relationship that I’m writing about is my relationship with music and writing,” she shared.
The 23-year-old singer explained that she wrote the song after completing her first album, “Buzzkill,” when she felt creatively exhausted and even afraid to create again.
“I just poured my heart into this one project for two years and I’m like, ‘How am I supposed to do that again?’”
Eventually, she realized she needed time to recenter herself and rediscover the joy in making music.
“I think I just needed to regroup [and] figure out what brings me joy and what doesn’t bring me joy and how to double down on the things that bring me joy,” she shared.
The singer has not revealed the title or release date of her next album.
